HOW TO SUPPORT KIDNEYCAN

KidneyCAN is the voice of patients, caregivers, doctors, and researchers. We advocate year-round for federal funding for research. With your support, our community is accelerating cures for kidney cancer.

Our work has led to $185 million research dollars since 2016; however, KidneyCAN is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and does not receive any funding through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) or KCRP (Kidney Cancer Research Program).

Our work never stops or slows down. With the support of our donors, KidneyCAN makes a difference every day in the lives of people affected by kidney cancer.

Fundraise Your Way

We want to make fundraising easy for you. Start with an idea, and use the resources we’ve provided here to make your fundraiser a success! Our team is here to help if you need us.

Get inspired, then get started!

CELEBRATE MILESTONES

Create a fundraiser to celebrate a loved one, a birthday, a special milestone in your cancer journey.

HONOR & REMEMBER

Acknowledge a special survivor, or create a memorial fundraiser to pay tribute to your loved one.

HEALTH & FITNESS

Create a fitness challenge, a fun run, or a local walk to raise awareness and funds for research.

MAKE IT A FUN-RAISER

Create a fun event that incoporates a hobby you love: a bowl-a-thon, a fishing competiton, a bake-off, a game night.

DON'T FORGET FIDO

Dogs are family too!  Create an event to include man’s best friend, like Yappy Hour or Fun Run with Fido in the park.

RAISE AWARENESS & FUNDS

Create an annual educational event for the month of March in honor of Kidney Cancer Awareness Month.

Walt Disney said, “If you can dream it, you can do it.”

Get creative, and know that your efforts make an enormous impact on those living with kidney cancer!

Additional Resources to Support KidneyCAN

AMAZON SMILE

AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support KidneyCAN every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to KidneyCAN.

RAISE FUNDS AND AWARENESS ON FACEBOOK

Set up a dedicated fundraising page to share your story, tell others about your mission and rally around your fundraising goal. A Facebook birthday fundraiser is an easy way to support KidneyCAN! Facebook charges no fees to donations made to non-profits.

GIFTS OF STOCK

If you have stock that you’ve owned for more than a year, check with your financial advisor to see if giving stock will provide you with greater tax benefits than giving cash. Your broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer to KidneyCAN or email us for further information.

ONE-TIME OR A SUSTAINING DONATION

Your contribution matters in the fight against kidney cancer! Your donation helps to fund programs that support our mission to advocate and fund cutting-edge research. You may make a one-time donation or set-up a recurring gift to help further our work.

MATCHING GIFTS

Double your donation! Many companies offer matching gift programs to encourage employees to contribute to charitable organizations. Some provide matching funds to support employee volunteer hours. Most of these programs match contributions dollar for dollar, and some will even double or triple the amount of your gift! Click the link to check if your Company participates.

WORKPLACE GIVING

Are you a business owner or part of a company that would like to extend your donations through Workplace Giving? See how both KidneyCAN and your company and employees can benefit through a workplace giving program. Read more about this and contact us if you’d like to set up a Workplace Giving program in your company to benefit kidney cancer research.

Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday was founded in 2012 with a simple idea: setting aside one day specifically for doing good. It’s held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. In the last decade, nonprofits around the world have organized giving campaigns on this day to help their supporters understand their needs and make an impact through giving.

We at KidneyCAN use Giving Tuesday as an annual opportunity to raise awareness for kidney cancer. We know that makin progress toward cures depends on the generosity of our supporters, and we spend the day providing education and support for patients and caregivers.

If you would like to organize a Giving Tuesday campaign to support KidneyCAN, please let us know! We’d be happy to provide you with resources and information to get started.

Join Our Grassroots Army

We know that awareness of kidney cancer and its impact on many lives leads to a sense of urgency, a desire for solutions. Awareness leads to advocacy, and advocacy — joining to speak as one voice — leads to funding and research. That’s how we get to cures.

On #GivingTuesday, we are asking for your support as we continue the work to accelerate cures for #kidneycancer.
When you give to KidneyCAN:
• You are pushing for kidney cancer research funding.
• You are bringing together the world's best researchers to propel collaboration and breakthroughs.
• You are providing direct support to patients and caregivers.
• You are connecting patients to clinical trial opportunities.
When you give to KidneyCAN, you are giving HOPE to more than 79,000 Americans per year who are diagnosed with kidney cancer.
You are giving TIME to patients living with advanced cancer and finding new paths for treatment.
This holiday season, please continue to support our work by making a donation.

Season of Inspiration: Bruce shares how he stays active doing the things he loves.
"When I was first diagnosed with #kidneycancer in 2017, I was 46 years old and still playing soccer. I had been a lifelong soccer player and played all the way into my 40s. When I lost a kidney to nephrectomy, I realized the risk was a little too high to play a contact sport like soccer.
"I decided to retire from playing but I really wanted to still be on the soccer field and be part of the game. So what I thought about was refereeing. I went a took a class and got certified and became a soccer referee. I referee now on weekends, primarily youth soccer in leagues and tournaments, and I really enjoy still being part of the game.”

Season of Inspiration: Our friend Tom tells us what inspires him:
"My world blew up in January 2019 when I was diagnosed with #kidneycancer. After surgery, I had hoped to join an adjuvant trial but was disqualified due to considerable progression in a few short months, so I began systemic treatment.
"After almost three years on meds, I have been on a break for nearly seven months. Like many people, I found it hard to stay positive, but throughout this chapter in my life, my wife has been a lifeline of consistent optimism. She attends every visit with my oncologist and has patiently listened to me during my wild emotional rants for the past three and a half years."

KidneyCAN is celebrating #GivingTuesday by kicking off a Season of Inspiration. Living with #kidneycancer is a challenge in the best of times, and the holidays can be especially tough.
We asked our patient and caregiver community to share what inspires them and will share their stories in the days ahead. Our friend Chuck tells us:
"People ask me all the time -- as a person living with advanced, stage IV cancer, how do you get through the day? For me, it's easy: FAITH, HOPE, and LOVE ... the greatest of these is certainly LOVE. How can it not be when I am surrounded by the blanket of love that I am every day? #BLESSED."

"Many cancers, including kidney cancers, have built-in defenses that allow them to repel the human immune system’s attacks. Immune checkpoint inhibitors help thwart these defenses. 'If you think of a tumor’s defense against an immune attack as barbed wire, this class of immunotherapy drugs aims to cover the barbed wire and allow the immune system to do its job,' [Dr. David McDermott] explains."
