2022 District Days

In 2016, Congress allocated $0 in funding dedicated to kidney cancer research. Through the power of advocacy, we have raised that number to $185 million in six years.

KidneyCAN hosts several advocacy events each year to ensure that funding stays in place and grows to meet research needs.

Our third District Days event took place on August 8-9th. Stay tuned for event updates and outcomes, which we’ll share here in the weeks ahead.

Visit the District Days blog post for up to date info about our achievements this year.

NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

All patients, families, caregivers, friends, and medical professionals are welcome to join our advocacy events. Advocates meet virtually with their representatives and Congressional staff in their home districts to ask for research funding.

We provide training with Advocacy 101, a detailed guide to help you know what to expect and how to talk to your representatives about kidney cancer research funding. You will receive a meeting schedule, talking points, scripts you can use if you would like, and leave-behind documents.

If you have any questions, please reach out! We welcome anyone with a passion for accelerating cures for kidney cancer. Contact our Legislative Patient Advocacy Lead, Debra Beyhan, at debra.beyhan@kidneycan.org.

From 2018-2023 we have had 980 advocates attend 1,316 congressional meetings.

Join us in helping to accelerate cures for kidney cancer. Your voice counts!

We know that awareness of kidney cancer and its impact on many lives leads to a sense of urgency, a desire for solutions. Awareness leads to advocacy, and advocacy — joining to speak as one voice — leads to funding and research. That’s how we get to cures.

Standing tall in front of the Capitol Building, Kathleen champions the fight against #kidneycancer, inspired by the memory of her husband, Ken Moore, who passed in July 2021.

With the unwavering support of her children, Allison and Eric, Kathleen joins KidneyCAN today in urging Congress for:

✅ A $60 million appropriation for the #KCRP for FY24.
✅ $50.9 billion for the NIH, including a $9.988 billion appropriation for the NCI.
✅ Long-term #telehealth legislation.
✅ Sustainable funding for medical #research and ensuring the #patientvoice is central in legislative policy, especially in promoting diverse #clinicaltrial enrollment.

Together, we believe in a future with early detection, less toxic treatments, and ultimately, cures for kidney cancer.

In the heart of Washington D.C., as the Rally for Medical Research unfolds, we take a moment to honor the brave souls we’ve lost to kidney cancer.

Each name on this sign, held by KidneyCAN President Bryan Lewis, is more than a memory—it’s a legacy.

Many of these patients participated in clinical trials and advocated tirelessly for research funding. Their courage and commitment have paved the path for future advancements in kidney cancer research.

They were not just patients; they were pioneers, champions for change, ensuring brighter prospects for those who follow in their footsteps.

Today, we rally in their memory, inspired by their dedication. Their spirit drives our mission forward. 🧡💚
